The Roswell Soccer Club philosophy of coaching youth soccer places great importance on age appropriate activities and creating a player centered learning environment. The programs and training curriculum for the Roswell Soccer Club is geared for the youth player from the U – 6 age group through the U – 19 levels.
At the earliest ages we make sure that all activities fit the developmental levels of children. All of our except for programs except for recreation are run and supervised by licensed and professional coaches that facilitate age appropriate training sessions and understand the developmental process.
World Cup Soccer (4 & 5 years old)
World Cup is an introduction into soccer in a friendly and non-competitive environment. Our focus is on the players having fun and playing lots of games. In practice sessions during the week the players play fun games with their ball and also participate in physical movement activities such as running, jumping, skipping, hopping and maintaining balanced.
Recreation Soccer (6-18 years old)
Recreational soccer is for participants who are just getting started in soccer or for those players who are not interested in playing soccer at a competitive select level. Our recreational coaches focus on developing the balls skills and team tactics that fit age and skill appropriate activities. This curriculum is similar to our travel soccer program. The only difference is the competitive nature of the game.
Jr. Academy (7 & 8 years old)
Jr. Academy is a program for players ages 7 & 8 and is designed to provide the participants with an introduction to professional training and reinforce the basic soccer concepts of the Santos Philosophy of Play. The overall objectives and goals for the Jr. Academy is for the players to have fun while developing sound fundamentals and movements of the game such as ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting, running, jumping, cutting and maintaining balance.
Academy Soccer (8-11 years old)
U9-U12 age groups are the next phase of development where girls and boys are separated into groups and teams. Our developmental program in academy is structured to provide maximum instruction for each and every player, preparing him or her to compete at their highest level of play. The development process will continue at this age group, as the objectives will be geared towards specific and specialized skill movements. Players are challenged to compete against other Academy teams with the understanding that player development remains our number one priority.
Certified coaches and trainers emphasize development of ball control, individual skills to beat an opponent, footwork, passing, shielding, dribbling, and shooting. The training these players receive is designed to keep every player active with the ball at all possible time.
Note- Advanced U12 players can and do overlap into other phases of development. This time is called the dawn of tactics. There are also physical changes that occur which develop players at different rates.
Select Soccer (12-19 year olds)
The Select Program is designed to help players who are more developed in their skills and continue to develop through practices with professional coaches and competitions against other select club teams. The curriculum and age appropriate training emphasis is more competitive in nature than the recreational program but this outline is used for recreational training. The training priorities and goals for the corresponding age groups are as follows:
• U13-U14- Development of individual skills, individual and group tactics. The dynamic training environment of small sided games develops technical speed under pressure of time, space and opponent. Practices focus on 60% technical/tactical/fitness training and 40% competition.
• U15-U16- Small sided games will be used to train the roles and functions of players emphasizing technical and tactical speed (decision making) by applying some tactical or technical restrictions in a competitive environment the player’s level of concentration and decision making increases. Time focus on 50% of technical/tactical/fitness training and 50% competition and competition-specific training.
• U17 – U19- The final phase of athletic preparation requires full game knowledge in positional and team play. Players continue to develop mastery technically and tactically as the functional training of the three blocks in the team continues. The fitness component becomes more of a factor at this age group.
