The top female soccer players in the Southeast United States gathered In Montevallo,
Alabama during the week of July 12 – 16 to participate in the Olympic Development Program’s (O.D.P.) Region III camp. These young ladies were being evaluated for the next to last step in being identified for the United States National Teams. Coaches from across the Southeast and representatives of the United States National Team were watching the players to see if they were ready to take the next step in their young careers. One of Roswell’s very own, Kelsey Nix was selected to train with the U.S. National Youth Team in
California.
Kelsey has been mentored and trained by Roswell Santos coaches, Mark Lomas and Shae McBride. Along the way she has garnered a reputation for toughness, coachability and a work ethic that is of the highest standard. According to Coach Lomas, "Kelsey is a very hard working player with great athleticism and good technical skill but the best trait that she posses is the fact she is a team player. Kelsey does everything with a big smile and has been a pleasure to coach over the years.” Her ODP Coach Ellie Davis said of the invitation: “The invitation to national camp is well deserved….She is a dynamic player and has scored some incredible goals in previous events as well as at region camp….”. Her parents, Laveeta and Johnny say that Kelsey is very focused and determined. They said she set her sights on the being the best she could from an early age.
Kelsey has earned the recognition as one of the finest young female soccer players in the country. This is quite an honor for a young lady who is known as much for her smile while playing as she is for her fearless tackling and ferocious and unpredictable shooting ability.
