F.A.Q.'s
Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need a Goalkeeper trainer program?

The Goalkeeper position is a special position and it requires the proper training and instruction in order for players to learn the skills needed to play well.  With the proper guidance and development the Goalkeeper can be the position that makes the difference in the game.
Do all Goalkeepers need to attend?  Yes!  Every keeper is required to attend the Goalkeeper sessions.  In order for our players to continue to develop in this position they need specific training in order to improve.  Many of the coaches run their sessions with the field players in mind and goalkeepers are forced to train like field players.  They will get more out of one hour of goalkeeper training than training like a field player for an hour and a half.  By goalkeepers attending the first practice of the week with their fellow keepers, they will be able to bring their newly learned skills back to their team practices and work with their coaches to incorporate these skills in all finishing drills and in any scrimmages that are conducted during team practice sessions.

How much does this cost?
The goalkeeper clinics are free of charge.

Can our coaches incorporate the Goalkeepers into their practice?
Yes! Each coach should make ever effort to include the Goalkeeper into their sessions.  This is a difficult task at times due to the fact that a majority of the team is made up of field players and there is a lot of work to be done to develop the team technically and tactically.  Our goalkeeper coach has been charged with evaluating our field sessions and will provide information to our coaches with ways in which they can incorporate the keepers into their sessions.

What kind of training will our Goalkeeper’s focus on?
For the younger players the basic hands, feet, and movement techniques are the building blocks for good Goalkeeper keeping.  Once a player builds confidence and good technique, diving and advanced technical and tactical skills are learned.  At the older levels, players will be challenged physically and mentally and continue to build off of their technical and tactical skills.  They will also be challenged to think outside the box, with their communication, organization and distribution skills.

Where can I get the proper gear for a Goalkeeper?

 S. G Soccer has been generous enough to provide the club with funds, special discounts and gear in an effort to support our goalkeeper program.  Below is more information on our sponsor.  Please support their store as they have supported us.
