Veteran Coach Brings Two Decades of Passion and Experience to Roswell Soccer Club
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce Roswell Soccer Club’s new DOC, Mike Farnham. He is an excellent addition to the Roswell Soccer Club family and will begin working with the club immediately. Look for more information in the coming weeks as we schedule opportunities for parents and players to meet Mike and hear what he plans for the club. Below is some background on Mike that will help you get to know him. Please join us in welcoming Mike to Roswell Soccer Club.
Mike’s experience as a youth soccer coach began during his first year in college (1986) where he realized the great passion he had for "teaching kids in soccer". He now has over 20 years of coaching and administrative experience at the club, high school, college and professional levels with an emphasis on youth players and youth clubs.
Mike earned his "D" State Coaching License (1989) and was a Select Coach for the Coastal Futbal Club and Coastal Carolina Soccer Camps (1989-92) as well as an Assistant Coach for Coastal Carolina University (1991-92). Mike graduated from CCU with a BA and majored in History.
An opportunity in 1994 to become the first Select Program Coordinator for the James Island Youth Soccer Club prompted Mike to move to Mount Pleasant, SC. During his time in the Charleston area Mike earned his USSF "C" License, he worked as a Head Staff Coach for the Ralph Lundy Soccer Academy and for the SCYSA ODP Program.
A highlight for Mike at this time was the 1996 season he spent as an Assistant Coach for the Charleston Battery A-League Team under the mentoring of Nuno Piteira. In 1998, when Mount Pleasant Soccer Club formed and became the largest club in SC, Mike accepted the opportunity to become the first Director of Coaching for MPSC.
In 2000, Mike moved to Atlanta in order to continue his career as a Youth Soccer Coach. He was hired as the Academy Director in 2001 by the Metro North Youth Soccer Association (which would later become NASA) and worked in that capacity until 2006. During his time here in Atlanta Mike has been an ODP Assistant and Head Coach for the ’92 Boys (2005-09) as well as an Coaching Instructor for the "F" and "G" Coaching Courses. He earned his USSF "B" License in 2003 and his "A" License and his National Youth License in 2005.
In 2007 Mike joined GSA as the Director of Player Development and worked closely with his mentor (Nuno) to oversee the Boys Academy and Select Programs.
Mike lives in Cumming with his wife Emma and his daughter Isabella and they are expecting another girl in August.
