Roswell Soccer Club is fortunate to have great soccer coaches with decades of experience on its staff. Roswell Soccer Club’s Director of Coaching (DOC) Manny Sanchez has assembled a great team of coaches for all age groups of Academy and Select Programs. All the coaches are dedicated to the skills development of the players and to provide a nurturing environment so all players can reach their full soccer potential.
Scott Spencer will be coaching the U12 Boys Academy team this upcoming season. He comes to Roswell Soccer Club with a great deal of coaching experience at the highest level. He is the prior Director of Coaching of the Alabama Youth Soccer Association where he oversaw the Alabama Soccer Olympic Development Program. He was also responsible for all Alabama soccer coaching education.
Scott comes to RSC with a long list of coaching licences that showcase his experience, as well as his passion for the game of soccer. His licences include a USSF A licence since 2001 and an English FA International Licence (UEFA B) since 2006. He also holds a USYS/USSF National Youth Licence and USSF Goalkeeper 1 licence and a number of other licences. Scott has heavily involved in the US Olympic Development Program (ODP), which is the US Soccer Youth National Team’s development/identification program. He has been a ODP Region III staff coach where he was a staff evaluator and coach for under 14 to under 18 state ODP boys’ and girls’ teams.
Scott Spencer also brings experience from coaching and scouting on the international level. He was executive director of Futbol Internacional, an international tournament involving the women’s national teams of China, Argentina, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, USA (under 21), and Canada. He is also the International Development Director of Futbol America, Inc., where he is the official representative for international development for Estudiantes de la Plata of Argentina, the reigning South American champions, having won the 2009 Copa Libertadores. Scott has coached the Atlanta Silverbacks’ women’s professional team, as well as the Memphis Mercury, a W-League women’s professional team.
Scott also played soccer professionally following his graduation from the University of Memphis, where he graduated with a degree in physics in 1992.
Bert Leonard will be coaching the U19 Classic Red boys team this coming season. He comes to Roswell Soccer Club with vast experince in coaching at international and collegiate levels. He is the assistant coach and goalkeeper trainer for Oglethorpe University’s men’s soccer team.
He has a USSF A license since 2002 and National Youth license attained in 2008. Roswell Soccer Club is very fortunate to have Bert on its team of coaches because of his expertise in video analysis of soccer games. Bert Leonard is the video coach for the Senior US Women’s National Team, where he is responsible for filming and providing video analysis for the coaching staff and players during their participation in games and tournaments. His last project with the Senior US Women’s National team was in Algarve Cup held in Portugal in March 2009. The US Women’s team made it to the final, losing to Sweden on penalty kicks.
In addition to basic skills, ball-handling and footwork, science and technology play an important part in the development of the next generation of soccer players. Bert has worked extensively with Interplay-Sports, a major developer of analysis software for soccer teams. Major soccer teams and soccer associations, including US Soccer, utilize this technology to provide accurate feedback on tactical situations for the teams and individual players.
Bert has also been the Assistant Coach/Video Coach for FC Atlanta Blackhawks PDL team, Player Development Director for FC Atlanta Silverbacks, as well as the Academy Director for the Atlanta Fire United Soccer Club.
Bert Leonard has participated in numerous internships with professional clubs, including Lyn (Oslo, Norway), Stabæk (Oslo, Norway), Liverpool FC (UK), Manchester (UK) and Liga Deportiva Alajuelense (Costa Rica).
